In Web Redesign, 'Women's Health' Tries to Feel Less Like a Magazine

Women's Health magazine has inspired its fair share of body and lifestyle makeovers, and now its website is getting a makeover of its own.


The Rodale-owned title recently took the wraps off a new site design at womenshealthmag.com. The site is cleaner and simpler, with bigger images and better navigation. It's also newsier, ripping out the tiled format favored by many other magazines in favor of the vertical newsfeed format long championed by blogs.


"When magazines were [first carried over] to the web, they were presented in packaged content buckets — you'd have a homepage with a slider, three of four sex stories, then three or four celebrity stories, as a way of teasing out content in sections," Carolyn Kylstra, site director of Women's Health, said in a phone interview with Mashable on Wednesday. "[We] wanted to get away from that traditional packaging concept. It didn't reflect, in our experience, how readers use the Internet." Read more...
